An Overview of the Six Sigma Certification

In the realm of industry and business, the term certification refers to the process in which a certain organization confers recognition to an individual that has been qualified or is able to do a certain job given the certain criteria. That goes the same with six sigma certification.

The term “six sigma certification” refers to a certification in which a person owns a specific label or designation to remind the person of his specific performance and skill on the job. This certification is different from others that put the person’s skill in various process improvements. The above mentioned certification only allows the person’s skill set on the specific type of skill necessary for the job.

To be certified, one must undergo training. To see how skillful the person is, a written exam is done. This certification is administered by the training companies, and can also be done by other companies who hire these separate training companies. Over time, the companies themselves have created their own, new set of training tools.

Doing a couple of quality projects that is to be completed should be done after being administered with the training. This is to see how the trainees have fared well with their learning of concepts while in training and applying them by finishing these quality projects.

There are three types of certifications under the six sigma certification. The lowest certification is the green belt certification. Next is the black belt certification, and the third certification is the master black belt certification. There are also other certifications such as yellow and lean certification.

The main boss or leader that oversees the proceedings of the training and the projects is called a champion. Under the champion are the “belts”, and these belts, starting from the highest belt (master black belt) down to the green belt, have their own sets of job
