Six Sigma Certification

Earning a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt: An Overview

The Six Sigma Green Belt, or CSSGB in American Society for Quality (ASQ) initials, is a Six Sigma certification given to a professional who works either in support of or under the tutelage of a Six Sigma Black Belt, whichever the case may be.

This certification is of a lesser kind than that of the two other Six Sigma certifications, which are the Six Sigma Black Belt and the Six Sigma Master Black Belt. The only focus of the Green Belt is that he gives analysis and does quality problem solving, and he is part of the projects that gear towards quality improvement. ASQ first offered this certification in 2006.

The experienced required to be given a Six Sigma Green Belt is very simple. A person availing of a Six Sigma certification should have at least three (3) years of work in one of the many facets of Six Sigma’s Body of Knowledge. Being a Green Belt though is not grounds to be certified to the next higher belt, which is the Six Sigma Black Belt.

A Six Sigma Green Belt is expected to execute these, if not all, tasks only designated for this kind of a Six Sigma certification. Aside from being the support of or being under the direction of the Six Sigma Black Belt, he also gives analysis and does quality problem solving.

He also must involve himself in projects regarding quality improvement, and must be at least three years working under the concept of Six Sigma. Since he is involved in projects, he should participate in it, and not necessarily be a leader of a certain project.

To be given the certification of a Six Sigma Green Belt, the prospective candidate is to pass a written examination that covers what is indicated in the Six Sigma Body of Knowledge. It is a four-hour, one hundred item examination that is offered in English and is open-book.
