Six Sigma Certification

Other Than the Three Belts, There is also a Yellow Belt

The three belt levels, the Green Belt, the Black Belt, and the Master Black Belt, are the individuals that are given a Six Sigma specification, from lowest to highest. These are individuals that have a certain role in the implementation of a project which is geared towards the Six Sigma approach, which is the elimination of defects.

Lo and behold, there is also a belt level that does not require a Six Sigma certification from the American Society for Quality. The holder of this belt level also has a specific job in a Six Sigma certification project, just like the three belt levels. He is like a Green Belt, but in many ways. He is what is called a Yellow Belt.

The general characteristic of the Yellow Belt is their comprehension of the methodological basics of Six Sigma, which are exemplified by the use of the define-measure-analyze-improve-control model (DMAIC) and the define-measure-analyze-design-verify model (DMADV) and its support tools. A Yellow Belt, as what was mentioned, is like a Green Belt, but may vary from one business to the other. What they only do is devise process maps, and work alongside the Green Belts.

Despite the Yellow Belt not having a Six Sigma certification from the ASQ, he acts as an expert on the subject, either on the specific project particulars or on the Six Sigma concepts. In the absence of the Black Belt, the Yellow Belt can select Green Belts and place them in a smaller group that is assigned of a specific task. Again, it depends on the business that the whole group ventures on.

Aside from all these, he is knowledgeable of the combination of the lean type and Six Sigma methodologies. Lean management is a similar business management strategy as Six Sigma, but with a different approach. The knowledge that he has regarding this would help in attaining the possibility of a success in production which would later translate into satisfied customers.
