The Process of Earning a Six Sigma Black Belt Certification (CSSBB)
A Certified Six Sigma Black Belt is a Six Sigma certification given to the professional who is able to elucidate the philosophies and principles of the concept of Six Sigma, along with the systems that support the concept and the necessary tools. The certification was first offered by the ASQ in 2001.
A certified Six Sigma black belt has his own qualities, namely, being able to possess leadership skills within the team, being able to comprehend the dynamics of the team and designating roles for each member of the team, and being able to know the DMAIC methodology very well.
The experience that is required in this ranking of Six Sigma certification is either of these two: he should have completed two (2) projects with affidavits that are duly signed, or he has completed a project with a signed affidavit and three (3) years of work experience in an area or two of the Body of Knowledge of Six Sigma. Being a certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) is not a requirement, though.
For the Six Sigma certification of a Black Belt, he should at least be expected to know specific knowledge, such as the following: being able to comprehend different leadership and six sigma roles and responsibilities and being able to discern the obstacles of the organization.
Also, it is expected that a Black Belt can be able to understand various techniques in organizational management if there’s an obstacle, can be able to understand various customer demands, use their feedbacks to determine them, and other expectations.
To be given a Six Sigma certification, the qualified is to take on and pass a written examination comprising of multiple-choice questions in accordance to the Six Sigma Body of Knowledge. It is a four-hour, open-book examination, and is offered in the English language.
